Delete your account
Brand New World Studios, LLC (d/b/a PurposeBook)
Request deletion
Enter the email address on your PurposeBook account. We’ll send you a link to confirm — nothing is deleted until you open it.
How to request deletion
You can ask us to delete your PurposeBook account and the information associated with it at any time. There are two ways to do it, and both lead to the same result.
From this page — use the form above. Enter the email address associated with your account, choose whether you want your whole account deleted or only your content, and submit it. We will email that address a link to confirm the request. Nothing is deleted until you open that link, because the confirmation is how we check that the request came from you and not from someone else who knows your address.
From inside the app — open Profile, then Delete account, and follow the steps there. Because you are already signed in, no email confirmation is needed. If you don’t see it, your app version predates this option — use the form above instead; it leads to the same result.
What happens when you confirm depends on which you chose. If you asked us to delete your whole account, your access ends straight away — you are signed out and cannot sign back in. If you asked us to delete only your content, nothing changes immediately and you carry on using PurposeBook as normal.
Either way, your information is not destroyed at once. We keep it recoverable for 7 days so that a request made by mistake can still be undone, and you can cancel at any point in that window using the link on the confirmation page. If you cancel a full deletion, your access is restored. After the 7 days pass, everything is permanently destroyed and cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.
What is deleted
If you ask us to delete your account, we delete all of the following:
- Your account and sign-in credentials.
- Your profile, including your name, email address and any photos you added.
- Everything you wrote or recorded in an activity — your answers, reflections and notes.
- Your conversations with Chat, including the full transcript of every exchange.
- Everything PurposeBook generated about you, including your strengths, role and impact, purpose statement, and the underlying evidence drawn from your answers.
- Any photos, documents or files you uploaded.
- Notification tokens for your devices.
- Cached copies of your data held to keep the app responsive.
- Your records in our analytics warehouse — de-identified copies stored under a pseudonym rather than your name.
If you ask us to delete only your content, we delete everything in the list above except your account, your sign-in credentials, your profile and your devices’ notification registrations. Your account stays open and you can keep using PurposeBook — you simply start again with nothing recorded.
What is kept, and for how long
Four things survive a deletion. Nothing else does, and none of them contain anything you wrote.
- A minimal record of the deletion itself — the email address that made the request, and the dates it was made, confirmed and carried out, along with a count of what was removed. We keep this so we can show your request was honoured if you or a regulator ever ask. It holds none of your activity, chat or profile content.
- Security and administrative audit records. These log actions taken on your account — an administrator changing a role, a sign-in attempt — rather than anything you wrote in the app. We are required to keep them for security and compliance purposes, so deleting your account does not remove them.
- Crash reports and app-usage statistics collected by Google on our behalf, which help us find crashes and understand which parts of the app are used. These are tied to an app installation, not to you or your account — we never send your identity to them — and Google discards them on its own schedule. They contain no activity, chat or profile content.
- Encrypted backups, kept on a rolling 30-day cycle and then destroyed automatically. They are never used to serve the app and are never restored to bring deleted data back.
Permanent destruction happens once the 7-day recovery window closes, and completes within 30 days of your original request at the latest.
If your account came from an institution
Most people reach PurposeBook through an organisation that provides it to their members. Your organisation may hold its own records about your membership, which are outside our control and are not affected by a deletion request made here — you would need to contact them directly about those.
What you wrote in PurposeBook is yours. Your organisation cannot prevent you deleting it, and we do not ask for their permission before acting on your request.
If you need help
If you cannot access the email address on your account, or the form above does not work for you, write to us at info@purposebook.com and we will handle your request directly. We may need to ask you for something that confirms the account is yours before we act.
